Equivio>Compare is a software application that highlights the textual differences between two documents. Equivio>Compare has the ability to compare documents of any two file types ג€“ for example, a Word version versus a PDF version of a document. The tool is specifically designed for embedding into third-party host applications, such as review platforms and document management systems.
This compare capability is used when reviewing documents that have been grouped into near-duplicate sets. For example, let's assume that Equivio identified a set of near-duplicates comprising 10 versions of a 50-page contract. Equivio identifies the pivot document, which is the most representative document of the near-duplicate set. The attorney starts by reading the pivot document. Having read the pivot, the attorney can decide whether it's necessary to continue reviewing the remaining 9 versions of the contract in the set.
Let's say that the attorney decides that the other 9 versions do in fact require granular review. However, it's not necessary to read the 50-page contract another 9 times. Using Equivio>Compare, or any other compare utility, the attorney can simply review the differences of each document vis-ֳ -vis the pivot document. In our case, we might have a version which has only two words which are different. Obviously, it's a lot faster reviewing just these changes, rather than reading each contract from beginning to end. It's also a lot more effective because there is no chance of critical differences being missed.
Equivio>Compare also compares emails. This feature is useful for highlighting the differences between two inclusives within an email thread. The two inclusives typically share a common ancestry; that is, both emails originate from the same original email thread, which at some point split into two sub-threads. Equivio>Compare identifies the common part of the chain, and the unique elements in both inclusives.
Equivio>Compare has been developed to support the baseline functions required in various hosting and review environments:
-
Ability to compare two documents of different file types; for example, to compare a Word file and a PDF file
-
Ability to view the results of the compare in a web environment ג€“ the output of Equivio>Compare, containing the file comparison, is in HTML
-
Ability to be embedded and launched within third-party hosting systems, such as ediscovery review and email archiving tools.
The Equivio>Compare application has been integrated within review tools such as iCONECT, CaseLogistix, Relativity, CT Summation, Ringtail and Concordance.
Integration
Equivio>Compare is built for straightforward plug-in as an OEM component, using the Equivio>Compare SDK. |
